Cicadas in Rockbridge County Va

Shown below is a Cicada hatch on my hatchet in Rockbridge County Virginia the 1st week of July. It came out of the ground overnight while we were camping. After some research I found that these are leftovers from last year's (2021) main 17 yr brood hatch for this area. It's not uncommon to see a few of these every year as with nature there are variables. It's been said nearly every animal in the woods eats these insects. We sure hope the turkeys benefit from the extra food source.
