

Return of the locusts
If you have lived in any of the Appalachian states (but not limited to) for a period of time you've heard the droning. Called locusts by many old timers (probably due to biblical reasons) the flying Cicadas emerge from the ground in cycles most heavily every 13 and 17 years. Annual cicadas can be heard in many states when a few drones can be heard from the cover of trees or bushes. The 2018 spring gobbler season seemed to present a challenge for more hunters than usual. If you weren't among the mentally beaten, and physically whipped consider yourself lucky. Speaking of luck I'll take it anytime I can get it especially during the tough times. I didn't hunt outside Virginia this year but a lot of fellow hunters and customers reported "crazy" acting birds in their words. Crazy later being revealed as less gobbling, less willingness to commit and unusually
